History

Herod's Odeon was built in honour of his wife on the steep, southern slope of the Acropolis. It originally consisted of a wooden, roofed space with a three-storey frontal wall which rose above the city. The Odeon served and continues to function as a locale for enjoying music. The capacity is for 5,000 spectators. Odeons of older dates can be found in Ephesus, Patras or in French Lyon.
