The SHURE Stúdió opened on 5 March 1994 as the chamber stage of the Budapest Chamber Theatre, with David Mamet's two-man play Orleanna, produced by Krisztina Deák. It took its name from its main sponsor, the American firm of Shure, which provided the sound and lighting technical equipment for the studio. A shop and the cellars underneath it were converted into a studio theatre, store and dressing rooms. The builders were Laky Kft and MABEDU Line Kft. Budapest Chamber Theatre bought the premises – previously a photgraphic laboratory – from MTI. The stage was built in three months. The Swedish firm of Ericsson renovated the Ericsson Stúdió at 20 Asbóth utca in 1999. Its former name was The Little Theatre in Asbóth utca.

Arcthitectural description

The Shure and Ericsson Studios have been working for 18-19 years. The Ericsson Studio, as the former studio of the People’s Theatre, was modernized using sponsorship support. The auditorium is also flexible here and can receive 60-80 people. The building is an axial, linear confronted theatre space.

The Shure Studio has been converted to theatre from MTI's photo lab with the help of architects and actors. The management of the theatre is located above the studio; the director's office has found space in the opposite house.
