Carl Moritz died in 1944 and has nothing to do with this theatre. He entered in a competition in 1913, but the plans at the time were never carried out due to World War I, and the whole project was never resumed after the war. Only after the 19th century Stadttheater had been destroyed in World War II, the city had to build a new theatre. This was first built 1950-1951 by Eugen Bertrand as a provisional theatre, already in the knowledge that it would have to be extended and rebuilt later, which then happened 1960-1963 by Gerhard Graubner.
