History

The largest amphitheatre in the world (189 m in length, 156 m in width, and 48 m in height). Its external cladding consists of 4 storeys with arcades. Statues were initially placed in all 80 open arches on each floor. Niches for holding beams used for applying a canvas to cover the auditorium are apparent at the top of the circumference walls. Up to 50,000 spectators could enjoy the performance.
