TACE workshop & exhibition in Ljubljana brought up a topic for a public discussion at Slovene Ministry of Culture
Divje misli (Wild Thoughts) is a series of discussions organised by the Ministry of Culture of Slovenia, with an aim of public intervention into the space of reflection on culture.
The discussion held on December the 3rd 2009 dealt with the question: Is Ljubljana the city in which a new theatre, a theatre for the 21st century, could be built?
"Wild Thoughs" were opened by Majda Širca, Slovene Minister of Culture, who contributed to the discussion. The moderator of the meeting was Ivo Svetina, the director of the National Theatre Museum of Slovenia, the guests speakers were: the two professors from the Academy of Theatre and Film in Ljubljana (AGRFT) Meta Hočevar, an architect working as a set-designer and a stage director and Dušan Jovanovič, a stage director; an artist Dragan Živadinov, a stage director, and his colleague Miha Turšič, intermedia creator (cf. www.noordung.net); and artist Janez Janša, a stage director and the director of Maska Institute; the two professors from the Ljubljana Faculty of Architecture: Janez Koželj, who is also a deputy mayor in charge of the urban planning and architecture of the city of Ljubljana, and Jurij Kobe, one of the tutors of the TACE workshop, and three Ljubljana architecture students who participated in the TACE student workshop.
The student exhibition in the City Hall triggered a dialogue between theatre and the city, between an urban organism and an artwork that is put into a shell of a theatre building.
Theatre is the only remaining public form of art, ephemerality (transience) being its basic attribute. Theatre is a medium closely related to timespace, body and emotions. Eventually, it presents the key for interpretation of several issues of modern time.
Video of the discussion is available here. The article about its conclusions is to follow soon.
