History

The Royal Exchange Theatre was built inside the lovely spaces of the former commodity exchange market, these being at the same time the largest “separate rooms” in Europe. A seven-walled module composed of steel and glass was situated inside the structure. Its circular shape contains both the stage and the three-storey auditorium which surrounds it, capable of holding 700 spectators. The appearance of RET makes reference to another English theatre – the Rose in Lancashire .
