History
The postwar Renaissance begins before the end of the war, in Sweden: the civic centre of Malmo, opened in 1944. Here already a large and small theatre are combined in a single architectural scheme (the idea goes back at least as far as Littmann's Stuttgart theatres of 1912). The large theatre has a wide amphitheatre auditorium centering on a classical orchestra which can be raised or lowered to form part of the stage or the audience as required.
