History
Rome's Teatro dell' Opera (by Achille Sfondrini, 1880, but rebuilt internally in 1926) never attained the predominance that its position in the capital might seem to deserve. Sfondrini's facade, which in fact lies along one flank, is a drab paraphrase of Paris —a long porch of square rusticated piers in the centre, and bays surmounted by segmental pediments at the sides.
