History
The romanization of the Allobroge Gauls is demonstrated by the development of leisure activities inspired by Rome. The theatre of Vienne was the second of its type in Gaul, after that of Autun, with a capacity of 13,000 spectators. Backing on to Pipet hill, it was enclosed by a wall which reached to the top of the tiered seating, giving it a height of 40 metres.
