Discover the beauty of historical theatre architecture in Bohemia and Austria!
PQ, the Arts and Theatre Institute and European Route of Historic Theatres invite you on an excursion to the historical theatre houses in south Bohemia and Upper Austria. Following historical lectures at PQ 2015, the 2-day excursion will take place from June 29 – June 30.Specialists in the field will guide you through the region with a rich cultural heritage and take you to visit some of the most beautiful preserved theatre buildings, such as the unique baroque scenery at the castle in Český Krumlov, the oldest preserved Austrian theatre from the 18th century in Greinand the post-modern auditorium from the 60s connected to the 19th century neo-renaissance theatre in Tábor.
Excursion information
The route: Praha - Tábor – Třeboň – Nové Hrady – Weitra – Grein – Český Krumlov - Praha
Dates: June 29–30 2015
The price of the excursion is CZK 3 800 (approx EUR 135) per person and includes:
· transport by comfortable bus
· expert guide + materials
· accommodation in Weitra including breakfast
· admission to all the premises
Payments are carried out through the online bookshop Prospero provided by the Arts and Theatre Institute. You can use either credit card or PayPal payment. Group payment is also possible.
Please note that the number of roomsin the Weitra hotel is limitedand participants will have to share double-rooms. Please indicate in your application the name of the accompanying person you would like to share your room with.

Tábor, Oskar Nedbal Theatre
Remarkable connection of a town theatre from 1887, featuring an aauditorium which was refurbished in the 1930s and a new auditorium from 1965, built into the courtyard of the adjoining house and connected at a right angle to the stage of the original theatre.

Třeboň, Tyl Town theatre
Town theatre of town houses, featuring an auditorium and painted curtain from the renovation carried out in 1871.

Nové Hrady, palace theatre
The palace theatre of the Buquoy family, renovated into its present shape around 1850, with parts of remarkable stage machinery on the stage with a high gridiron.

Weitra, palace theatre *
The private theatre in the palace of Fürstenberg family is of a similar type to the previous one. The richly decorated auditorium and parts of the preserved stage machinery stem from renovation work carried out in 1885.

Grein, Town theatre *
The oldest preserved town theatre in Austria was built in 1791. The auditorium has preserved its original appearance, theatre museum.

Český Krumlov, palace theatre *
One of the oldest and best preserved theatres in Europe. The private theatre of the princes of Schwarzenberg from 1766 has been preserved almost completely in its original state, with a diverse range of stage machinery and lighting devices which still work today plus a selection of scenery, props and costumes. Besides the theatre, we will also pay a visit to the theatre museum in the depository rooms with original equipment.
