Description:Ponec theatre is operated by Tanec Praha civic association with financial support from the City of Prague, the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, and the Prague 3 district. Ponec is an open space for independent artistic creation focused primarily on contemporary dance and movement theatre. The theatre flexibly reacts to new trends in the realm of living art, sticking to contemporary dance and all related genres as its priority. The central objective of the theatre is to provide selected artists with the best possible conditions for work on their projects. The dramaturgy of Ponec theatre results from several aspects of the theatre´s function. Firstly, the theatre is an important partner for numerous Czech artists to whom it provides opportunities to present their own projects. As such, Ponec compensates the lack (or rather the absence) of institutional background for artistic groups and struggles to help choreographers by recompensing the fact that professional background, so important for high-quality work in any domain, is non-existent in the Czech Republic. Most of these choreographers and dancers then become members of an open group of artists, mutually independent, who co-operate with the theatre on regular and intense basis and whose work constitutes the theatre´s profile dramaturgy. Secondly, an important part of Ponec theatre activities consists of establishing co-operation with foreign artists and institutions, initiating co-production projects, residencies of foreign artists, and internships of Czech artists abroad. By the opening of Ponec theatre a completely new type of artistic space in terms of content has been created on the Czech theatre map. The theatre´s dramaturgy and operation are constantly focused on contemporary dance and dance theatre. Ponec strongly supports all inspiring overlaps to other genres, alternatives and scenic technologies generated by contemporary art. In Ponec you will find artists who are flying, falling, hanging; artist posed on their heads, backs, arms, or tiptoes. Whether in ballet shoes or barefoot they are in constant movement, movement that often reminds one of dance. The space organization of Ponec is similar to a dance hall and as such it functions as a suitable space for creating new pieces and rehearsing. The programme of the theatre includes educational projects, workshops, professional seminars, conferences, and discussions. Ponec is thus both an important institution for artists and professionals and a well-known and characteristic address for theatregoers.
