Južni trg is a historically important location, the potential of which is at present not fully utilised. For this reason, the placement of a theatre that is both traditional and modern on this location signifies a transformation in terms of space and, above all, the viewpoint of the users. The concept of a transitional square concealing a theatre beneath its surface would encourage pedestrian movement through the Južni trg area. This would bring the space alive and its content would address passers-by. A transition along structured ramps exploiting the natural descent of the terrain towards the west would both conceal and reveal what was happening inside. Thus the demarcation line between the external and the internal would be obscured or emphasised as needed, and its rhythm would, of course, be dictated by the programme of the modern theatre.
