ARCHITECTURE WORKSHOP I – PRESERVATION AND RECONSTRUCTION
“conservation, preservation and revitalisation of historical theatre buildings. Lublin 2010”
The workshop took place between 16.8.2010 and 25.8.2010. 15 students from 3 participating countries took part in it. The programme of the workshop consisted of:
· A guided tour through the city, introduction to its cultural and architectural history. First visit to the Stary Theatre.
· A lecture given by prof. Lechosław Lameński (an art historian from the John Paul II. Catholic University of Lublin) on the 19th century theatre architecture in Poland (especially about the the Stary Theatre in Lublin).
· Discussion, tutorials, visit to the theatre with experts (prof. Lameński, a local conservator).
· A lecture given by Rafał Niedźwiadek on the former buildings in the place where now the theatre is situated and about archeological works under the groundwork of the building
· Introducing of students to the archival documentation on the Stary Theatre. Tutorials, meeting with experts (local conservators), discussion on the materials from archives (old blueprints, sketches, photos, written documents).
· A lecture given given by Bożena Grzegorczyk, Ph.D., (a historical monuments conservator from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, the former main conservator of the Wrocław Opera) on conservation and preservation of historical theatre buildings.
· A lecture given on conservation and revitalisation of the Stary Theatre.
· Consultations with the architectural studio ABA, the author of the project of revitalisation of the theatre. Introducing to the contemporary analysis of the building condition and possibilities of restoration to the students, as well as the plans of development of the building and its neighbourhood.
· Excursion to neighbouring architectural monuments in the Łańcut Castle
· Group work: brainstorming and possible solutions of revitalisation of the Stary Theatre.
· Preparing of a presentation of possible ways of revitalisation and solutions of reconstruction of the Stary Theatre.
· A formal presentation of ideas and plans of revitalisation of the Stary Theatre for needs of the contemporary culture centre in the Lublin town hall in presence of conservators and experts. Discussion.
