theatre in the city // city in the theatre The national theatre in Ljubljana takes place in the cultural heart of the city. Theatre connects all sides of the block and brings people and visitors to the theatre world. In the courtyard there are three visible towers, connected by atriums, gardens, shops, cafés and other functions in semi-open places.
The largest tower stands straight in the end of Plečnik’s axis. These towers make a new outdoor stage, which also works as an open entrance during the day. If you want to just feel the theatre atmosphere, you can visit the cafés and other places joined to the theatre. The building takes the city into its inland. Compared to old-fashioned theatres, which are closed during the day and which the visitor enters one way and leaves the same way, this new theatre allows people to have the time to feel, to meet, to step easily in and out, to see the difference between the real and the unreal world.
