In the last centuries the main stream of Slovenian representative architecture has been classicisation. I have taken up the challenge to find the roots of this. During my studies I became acquainted with the urban works of Jože Plečnik who was one of the most impressive architects, not just in Slovenia, but also in Central Europe. In my project I set about to rethink and continue what he had dreamt of: to give a real axis to the city. My design: “The Theatre of the 21st Century” consists of five blocks that are really easy to separate: the passage for the city-axis, the block of the grand stage, the two chambers of theatres and the outdoor stage. I did my best to link all the different blocks to the city-axis and to form some inner courtyards among them that also could be used even as a theatre. I filled up the gap of the block (of the surrounding buildings) on the south: this is going to be the location of the main entrance. On the other hand I opened up the block on the north side, so the passage arranged for the city axis can work as a gateway leading to the pedestrian district in the north. I also took the advantage of the existing gateways of the surrounding block: the cross entrances of the passage are set to them.
