The theatre complex on Južni trg is a combination of a traditional and modern theatre. It consists of cubes that complete the square area and of flat surfaces connecting individual building masses. The northern side of the location is occupied by a traditionally designed theatre with a theatre tower, whilst the southern side by smaller building masses containing modern theatre auditoria. Among them there are passages to the street Wolfova ulica. The flat surfaces are linked by stairs and enable visitors to move between the various sections, whilst at the same time functioning as foyers in front of the auditoria. There is a new connection between the squares Kongresni trg and Prešernov trg – Južni trg. The façade is transparent and performances can take place in the square whereby foyers take on the role of the auditoria. Between the traditional and modern theatres lies the theatre museum that rises above the meeting point of the passages connecting Kongresni trg and Prešernov trg to Slovenska ulica, thus inviting passers-by into the “cultural square”.
