History

Professional Theatre in central Zvolen became operational in 1949 under the name Stredoslovenské divadlo. For the established region-wide institutions was reportedly chosen because of its merits in the Slovak National Uprising and in order to support this industry and workers' city, as opposed "intelectual, erudition and tradition  Banska Bystrica." Guide to the Slovak theatrical history, Bratislava1993, s.69] The basis of its amateur theater group formed a local file and Banská Detvan local theater association. Since 1954, the institution bears the name of Jozef Gregor.
The theater is located in the original hotel building on the Grand Central Square, built in early 20th century in place of the old Renaissance building of the second half of the 16th century [by Project Institute of Culture Bratislava: Elected. Theater Joseph Gregor in Zvolen is a corner building, the north side adjacent to the rowhouse the main city square and its eastern side to side street facade. The historical part of the building facing the square, on the eastern side it connects to the modern rear extension.

Theatre foyer, accessible through the open plateau of the square is a smaller rectangular area, vaulted Prussian vaults puted on two central pillars. Area is plastered walls and no decoration, lining the pavement of polished stone. Part of the side wall is also a window of the Treasury.
