History

Even in 1950, 22 years after the demise of multiethnic Hungary and Czechoslovakia, the Slovak territory inhabited by 354,332 people of Hungarian nationality (10.3%). Since 1950, respectively. 1952, to ensure their cultural needs o.i. Hungarianestablished  two professional theater groups. Hungarian village set in the theater, however, completed its work and the disappearance of the theater in 1959 and has since worked in the area about 500 km length of single professional set - Hungarian regional theater in Komarno. This was the official reason for the late sixties began to consider establishing a second professional theater company operating in the territory of eastern Slovakia. After initial discussion on a file in the State Theatre Košice finally it was decided to allocate a set of Komárno theater. Yet in April 1969 was considered the location of new branches in the Hungarian theater district or in Rožňava Lučenec decision but eventually fell to the metropolis of Eastern Slovakia, Kosice. Beginning in October 1969 agreed to the name of the Ministry of Culture theater in Hungary Vox humana regional theater, but later that same month there was a change of name to Thalia Theater at the Hungarian regional theater. The reason for this rapid change was the similarity of the slogan of democratic policy pre-occupation of Alexander Dubcek "Socialism with a human face". Theatre started its operation on 29 November 1969 Gemerskej Hôrka performances of Carlo Goldoni's Servant of Two Masters.

One of the biggest problems was the absence of the newly created file suitable theatrical space. May 1969 Hungary has concluded a regional theater in Komarno agreement with the Secondary Technical School of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering of the Hungarian language in Manchester on a permanent borrowed and shared use of cultural school rooms. Rent concerned the school gym, possibly due to the stage and balcony, which were part of it, and utilized for cultural purposes. Yet that year, within the wider alteration schools (fifth floor extension, extension of laboratories and workshops, new outbuilding Gymnasium) mentioned areas were modified and became operational theater here a year later. Occasionally, however, stood out in other cultural institutions of the city, for example. in the historical building of the State Theatre, cinema Dukla, or city sports center. Getting rooms in high school provided the space for the theater absolutely, but still struggled with their shortcomings, especially for ensuring the administrative, technical and artistic operation. Even before the emergence of the Košice Regional institutions applied for Hungarian National Committee Municipal Theatre in Manchester on the allocation of building a special school, situated near the newly acquired space tech. The building, however, after modifications of the pioneers and placed House Youth Theatre and had many years to put its administrative and operational facilities in unsatisfactory buildings on 12th Street Tajovského In the mid 70-ies briefly the idea to position the new theater building (construction planned unit chief architect in the city), but it has not been implemented or re-gain the initiative theater space of the former special school or synagogue bat the end of 1989 did not work.

After the political changes in 1989, to empower the file from the Komárom theater and created a separate theater called the Thalia Theatre in Kosice Színház. In 1993 he bought the older building, in which the subsequent treatment and reconstruction in 1994-2002 placed the new theater studio, office premises and community center (the authors Peter Pásztor reconstruction, Radoslav Jankovic). Was given the name studio theater Marai. Theatre continues to use the school premises, which passed in 2005 rekonštrukciou.Vymenili the seats in the auditorium, which resulted in a reduction in the number of seats from the original 320 seats to the current 250 seats. Stage got a new surface, the entrances are modernized restrooms, dressing room and lounge.

Object Thalia Theatre Košice and secondary vocational school located in the historical center, near central square, as a corner building at the junction and Mojmírová Gresakova. The theater is located in the older functionalist building from 30-ies, oriented to the street Mojmirova. On a regular rectangular layout consists of a low base and two storey extension päťpodlažnou prism over the southern part of the object. Originally, the four-storey extension, the highest floor nadstavali during reconstruction in the 60's. From the west side wing of the building continues, oriented to the street Gresakova, together with extensions of new gyms and workshops in the yard of 60-ies using school. Horizontal front wing base object is a compact mass with slightly extended floor, broken rows of continuous horizontal windows. The vertical width of the superstructure is a ground floor by a relatively narrow, landscape-oriented interpretation and main entrance in the middle. Vertical, 5-axis superstructure in the background with a slightly depressed facade divided along the length of the front facade going balconies, flush with the forward area of the first floor. Behind them are located on the landscape-oriented three-piece rectangular window openings. Significant horizontal nature of the facade that this occurs to a lesser extent offset vertically oriented window frames. Full area of the facade is left without breakdown, plastered, the only decorative element is a fancy inscription over the entrance to the Thalia theater.

Side facades of the front wing members of three horizontal bands of small windows on the ground floor, large rectangular window in each of the upper floors and a narrow vertical strip window, going almost totally above the side entrance facade. Lateral wing, which continues along the facade Gresakova street, is an 18-axis, broken down by regular grid of simple rectangular window openings and the entry of a width the same, and 12-13-as well axis on the ground floor window.

In the western part of the ground floor, the vertical width of the superstructure, is located foyer with closet and buffet audience. Room layout is "L" with a longer arm oriented along the front facade. Entrance vestibule separated from the glassed vestibule, breakfast counters and dressing rooms are located on the side, west side of the room, separated from each other close rung. On the floor is raised a stone pavement, paint the side walls, locker rooms and cafeteria counters, input frames and frames are dark green glazed vestibule, the ceiling paint is left white. The northern side of the lobby to enter into shorter transverse hall staircase with her arms on both ends, leading to the gallery theaters. The corridor is also made possible the direct transition to the terms parter.

A theater has a rectangular plan with a stage, occupying the entire width of the north wall of room. On the opposite side of the floor is a gallery with a side-arm branches, ranging up to three quarters the length of terms. The side walls are regularly broken pillars, passing smoothly to the horizontal beams and exiting the area overhead of translation. The space between the pillars is in the form of shallow niches pushed into the background at that time, however, conceal their textile curtains. In the bottom of the heaters are located, from prehradené clearance hall wooden slats, mounting to the protruding pillars. Council seat height is graduated, the last four splits in the middle of the corridor entrance, flanked by railings. Combination of metal rods and wooden strips corresponds to the original railings still function space. Wood siding is also used for the upper and lower edges of the sill gallery, otherwise the walls are plastered and painted with gray paint.
